Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths. Where the good way is and walk in it and you will find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16
The story behind the paintings
Tree of Life | 140 x 80 cm | 2016 | oil on canvas
The Word is hidden between the roots of the Tree of Life.
The trunk of the tree is knotty. It has wrestled its way through life. Through joy and sorrow… especially sorrow.
The Tree of Life appears lifeless but it is in fact a doorway of hope. In this painting, everything is red. In Hebrew, the word for ‘Adam’, ‘blood’ and ‘red’ is the same. Even the Land of Israel, Adamat Israel, has been bought at the price of precious blood, the blood of the Eternal One.
Israel | 120 x 140 cm | 2020 | oil on canvas
In the centre of the world, a pregnant woman—Israel—has escaped death by the sword and is on her way home. Upon her belly is inscribed a Hebrew text from Isaiah 9: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The woman is surrounded by twelve gates bearing the names of the tribes of Israel. Beneath the gates, twelve foundation stones are hidden, each inscribed with the name of an apostle.
