Painting is inseparably connected to faith for Jip Wijngaarden. Since her conversion in 1990, her art has been entirely shaped by the Bible and the Jewish people. The images she sees while reading Scripture find their way onto the canvas. For her, painting is a form of prayer: an intimate dialogue with God, in which gratitude, struggle, and warning come together. She seeks to awaken people and invite them to reflect on the time in which we live and on what is being asked of us now.

Jip’s works have a distinctly prophetic character. They depict themes such as the role of Israel, the spiritual struggle of our time, and the tension between the Church and Judaism. In her paintings, Israel symbolizes God’s enduring bond with His people and the expectation of the coming of the Messiah. For her, the Bible is inseparably Jewish: written by Jewish hands, rooted in the same history, and carried by the same faith.

The powerful visual language of Jip’s work can sometimes evoke strong emotions, precisely because it confronts and breaks through boundaries. Yet her message is not only one of warning. Throughout her work runs a deep longing for restoration, justice, and peace. Her art invites viewers to pause, to look, and to rediscover hope in the promise of what is to come.

On Tuesday 17 February, you are warmly invited to attend a lecture in which Jip Wijngaarden will speak about her work.
Start: 7:30 p.m. Registration in advance is required.

Op 15 april 2025 is het 80 jaar geleden dat Leeuwarden werd bevrijd van de Duitse bezetting. Reden voor ons als commissie de veelzijdige en gedreven kunstenaar Jip Wijngaarden uit te nodigen voor een expositie. Veel mensen kennen haar nog uit het verleden toen ze de rol van Anne Frank vertolkte of uit haar latere films. Op enig moment is ze weer teruggekeerd naar haar oorspronkelijke liefde: Beeldende kunst. Volg je hart, dat moet wel haar motto zijn. In haar krachtige schilderijen spelen themas als de onderdrukking van het Joodse volk en tegelijkertijd ook de hoop op een nieuwe wereld een belangrijke rol.

Après s’être rencontrés il y a quelques années au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, Julien-David Petit, Béatrice Reibel-Petit, Philippe et Jessica Talec ont souhaité marier leurs expériences variées de concertistes, de chambristes ou d’improvisateurs, tout en rapprochant leurs répertoires de prédilection respectifs.

Le nom de leur ensemble renvoie à l’alliance entre le «Kol» (la voix en hébreu) c’est-à-dire la musique de tradition orale, et la tradition d’écriture inspirée par «Bach», devenue aujourd’hui l’emblème de la tradition occidentale dite savante.

Cette formation inédite vous emmène donc dans un univers moyen-oriental en passant par le prisme de couleurs occidentales. Il en résulte un ensemble à la composition originale, proposant une réconciliation musicale. Dans un esprit d’ouverture dialoguent alors le savant et le populaire, l’orient et l’occident, le texte musical et l’oralité, les trois instruments à cordes et le saxophone.
